On the Humanness of Healers: the malady [and remedy] Forget Thyself in professional helpers (6 CEU’s)
This presentation fills the critical need for Healers to become aware of and attend to their own needs, in order to avoid Forget Thyself, a malady of imbalance that manifests in the professional through physical, mental, and emotional health concerns. Client care then suffers right along with the self-concept, worth, and functioning level of the Healer. Helpers in all areas of practice are not only susceptible, but are at risk, due to numerous common themes outlined in this presentation. Recognizing that this effects whole professions; Healers, clientele, agencies, organizations, and communities, Jillian utilizes experience, extensive research, and continuous interviews in various disciplines to explain and address the challenges faced. In a unique and uplifting approach, she offers concrete and applicable insight, illumination, and suggestions to improve the experience of all involved. Fostering health and healing in the helping professions transfers not only into development and retention of quality Healers, but sound, supportive work environments for current and incoming helping professionals. Format is unique and uplifting, presenter is engaging and down-to-earth, includes humor, stimulating stories, enjoyable and meaningful activities, music, and audience interaction and participation. Relaxing, meditative activities are also included in the schedule for real-time practice and experience in Retreat.
“The Therapeutic Labyrinth: daily benefits & through challenging times” (4 CEU’s)
A workshop that presents explanation and history of the Labyrinth; types, benefits, and functions of use. Labyrinths are being seen in a variety of settings to promote health and wellness: counseling centers, hospitals, hospice, schools, prisons, churches, retreat centers, and colleges. Find out why they are being so widely used; their application for you personally, and in your practice. Explores and discusses concept of the Labyrinth for meditation, stress relief, centering, coping, and guidance. The Labyrinth as a ‘metaphor for life’s journey’ can be applied even more-so during difficult and challenging times, as part of a therapeutic approach to reduce anxiety and strengthen intention. Participants will experience several Labyrinth options; hand-held metal Labyrinth, paper copies, ceramic lap labyrinths, and the indoor floor model. !St. Scholastica has a large outdoor Labyrinth, which will be utilized during this workshop as well. Participants will also, during this Retreat, have the opportunity to learn how to create their own 7-Circuit Classic miniature Labyrinth, and take the kit home with them! This gives one the knowledge to build a life-size Labyrinth at home or in the community, as they wish.
